Assessment

  • A detailed discussion about your current difficulties and relevant medical or developmental history

  • Talking with you and, where appropriate, your family, carers or other professionals

  • Observing communication, speech, language, voice, eating, drinking or swallowing

  • Formal and informal assessments

  • Reviewing relevant reports or medical information

  • Identifying your strengths and areas where support may be helpful

  • Establishing your readiness for therapy, or identifying the need for further assessment to inform goal setting

Every person’s needs are different.

To ensure that your therapy is tailored to you, we will start by completing an initial assessment to establish your strengths, difficulties, and the areas of everyday life that matter most to you.

Initial assessment sessions usually take between 60 to 90 minutes. Depending on your needs, the assessment may include:

A boy playing a card game at a wooden table with a woman, likely his teacher or guardian, in a classroom or playroom setting with shelves of books and toys in the background.

Following your assessment, the findings and subsequent recommendations will be shared with you.

Together, you will decide on the most appropriate next steps, which may include therapy, practical strategies, further assessment, liaison with other professionals or advice, support and training for family members and carers.

You will also receive a written report summary after the assessment which will outline the findings, recommendations and proposed goals for intervention
